The Punjab and Haryana High Court has mandated that families of soldiers from Haryana who die in the line of duty must receive ex gratia benefits, despite any subsequent policy changes. The court instructed the state’s sainik welfare department to grant Rs 10 lakh to the family of a soldier who died in October 2000.
