The Indian home ministry has revised its model prisons law and manual to comply with the Supreme Court’s ruling against caste-based discrimination and manual scavenging in jails. It also redefined ‘habitual offenders’. States and Union Territories are directed to implement these changes, ensuring no caste-based discrimination in prisoner duties or living conditions.
