The information and broadcasting ministry extended the deadline for comments on the draft Broadcasting Services (Regulation) Bill to Oct 15. This follows consultations since last Nov. The proposed legislation aims to overhaul India’s broadcasting regulatory framework but has raised concerns regarding the treatment of independent news creators, initially limited to OTT platforms and digital news, now including social media accounts.
