The government is investigating the cause of abrupt baldness in Maharashtra’s Buldhana, suspecting high selenium levels in wheat from Punjab. ICMR has collected food samples for analysis. Junior health minister Prataprao Jadhav is monitoring the situation. Though selenium was detected in some wheat samples, its link to the baldness is yet to be confirmed. Contaminated water and nutritional deficiencies are also being investigated.
