For the first time, NASA has used laser communication technology to send 4K video streams from an aircraft to the International Space Station (ISS) and back. This achievement is part of a series of tests on new technology that could enable live video coverage of astronauts on the Moon during the US’s Artemis missions. Traditionally, NASA has relied on radio waves for space communication. Laser communications, however, use infrared light, allowing for data transmission 10 to 100 times faster than radio frequency systems.
