Jaydeep Apte, a young sculptor who created the Shivaji statue that recently collapsed at Rajkot Fort, has been arrested in Thane district. The statue was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi last December. Its collapse on August 26 has sparked political controversy and accusations of corruption against the Mahayuti government. Apte had no prior experience with large statues.
