Bengal’s last communist CM (2000-11), defeated by Mamata, passes away

Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, the former Left Front Chief Minister of West Bengal, passed away at 80 following a cardiac arrest in Kolkata. Known for his efforts to make Bengal industry-friendly, his tenure spanned 11 years. Though his industrialization efforts were not immediately successful, all political parties in Bengal now emphasize industrial growth.
