Sri Lankan Navy hands over fisherman’s mortal remains to India
The Sri Lankan Navy transferred two fishermen and the mortal remains of a third fisherman, who died in a collision between an Indian trawler and a Sri Lankan patrol vessel, to the Indian Navy. The incident occurred near the International Maritime Boundary Line. The Indian Navy ship INS Bitra coordinated the transfer to Rameswaram. The Sri Lankan patrol vessel accidentally sank the trawler, resulting in the death of Malaisamy and Ramachandran going missing. The Ministry of External Affairs protested to Sri Lanka and the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister announced compensation for the deceased’s family.
